Real-Time Power and Intelligent Systems (RTPIS) Laboratory

Real-Time Grid Simulation Laboratory

Clemson’s real-time grid simulation laboratory is equipped with the state-of-the-art real-time digital simulators from RTDSTM, multi-vendor phasor measurement units (PMUs), hardware and software phasor data concentrators, security gateways and advanced metering infrastructure. The IEEE 68 bus benchmark system and utility power networks with FACTS/HVDC, wind farms, PV plants, energy storage systems and plug-in electric vehicles can be simulated on the RTDS platform using very detailed models. Real-time (and faster than real-time) simulation of large power systems are carried out using hybrid simulators developed using commercially available software and in-house developed software. Power hardware-in-the-loop simulation studies are implementable. Real-time weather data can be integrated into the RTDS simulations if needed.
